You may have heard Delaware Art Museum’s annual Backyard Bash is back this Saturday #inWilm. What is the Backyard Bash? What can families expect from the outdoor affair? We sat down with the Delaware Art Museum to find out. Here’s the event IN a Nutshell…
What INspired the original backyard bash?
The Backyard Bash started as the museum’s Summer Music Festival. Its goal was to highlight regional artists, to help create a market for independent artists, and to bring the community together.
Tell us about your partnership with Peoples Festival.
The partnership with the People’s Festival grew out of a desire not to create a new festival in Wilmington, but to build on the foundation already laid by our rich festival culture. The museum works with the People’s Festival to curate the performing artists, reach local vendors and connect with the community.
What can people expect on Friday night? What’s the vibe?
There will be live music, local artisans selling their wares, information tables from local business and non-profits, food trucks and liquor sales. We are expecting a large turnout with the beautiful weather that is being forecast. People should pre-purchase tickets on-line at delart.org to avoid the lines.

Families should come early to see Universal African Dance and Drum ensemble! They are one of the most high quality African dance and drum experiences in the region with the a multi-generational company. There will also be caricatures, face painting, and yard games. All performances are family friendly.

Iz Balletto: I am looking forward to all of us to enjoying a night of unity, culture and love.
