Washington Post Nods OperaDelaware

OperaDelaware Festival - Events IN Wilmington

Last week, The Washington Post’s Anne Midgette gave a nice little shout-out to our very own OperaDelaware, choosing their 2016 OperaDelaware Festival as a top pick for the D.C. region! This could mean a major boost in tourism over those two weekends, the first of which just so happens to also coincide with the Wilmington Grand Prix. In short, we’re happy for our friends at OperaDelaware and very excited to see them getting the regional recognition they deserve.

In 2015, OperaDelaware unveiled a new production schedule eliminating their traditional spaced-out mainstage shows at The Grand and replacing them with a two-weekend festival. In addition, they announced “Inside the Opera Studio” and the “Sunday Artist Spotlight” programs as evolutions of their original Studio Series. They also began to collaborate more heavily with Baltimore Concert Opera, the company that OperaDelaware’s General Director Brendan Cooke founded in 2008 after the collapse of the Baltimore Opera Company. All of these changes have helped generate some buzz within the opera world and have assisted in brightening them a bit on the map – something that Delaware’s only professional opera company and the 11th oldest in the country certainly has earned!
