Bike to Work Day will be celebrated Friday, May 20 in Wilmington, with multiple guided rides that end at the H.B. du Pont Plaza downtown. The event is part of a nationwide effort to promote commuting by bicycle and biking in general.
May is National Bike Month, with the League of American Bicyclists this year anointing May 2 as National Ride a Bike Day, May 16-22 as Bike to Work Week and May 20 as Bike to Work Day. The Delaware Department of Transportation and Dover marked Bike to Work Day on May 20.
In Wilmington, the rides start at 7:45 a.m. in scattered neighborhoods, and they end with a reception 8-9:30 a.m. at the plaza, Delaware Avenue and North Washington Street.
