Description
Can You Bring It: Bill T. Jones and D-Man in the Waters is a feature documentary that traces the remarkable history and legacy of one of the most important works of art to come out of the age of AIDS –choreographer Bill T. Jones’s tour de force ballet “D-Man in the Waters.” In 1989, D-Man in the Waters gave physical manifestation to the fear, anger, grief, and hope for salvation that the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company felt as they were embattled by the AIDS pandemic. As a group of young dancers reconstructs the dance, they learn about this oft forgotten history and deepen their understanding of the power of art in a time of plague.
AIDS Delaware will be in the lobby to provide education, resources and promote the upcoming AIDS Walk Delaware happening on Saturday, September 18th. This is the 35th Anniversary of the Walk, held every year in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach.
There are currently 3,630 people in Delaware Living with HIV. For the past 3 years, an average of 92 new cases of HIV Infection have been reported. So far in 2021, there are 41 new cases.* “It appears infection rates are headed down year-over-year, but it could also be that people aren’t getting tested and don’t know their status. AIDS Walk Delaware allows us to remember those we have lost, celebrate the strides made in the fight against HIV and to ensure all Delawareans have access to free confidential testing, education and care for those living with HIV.” remarked John Beckley, Director of Development and Marketing at AIDS Delaware.
AIDS Walk Delaware is the state’s largest and oldest HIV/AIDS fundraising and awareness event and has historically attracted over 800 participants and volunteers. They hope to raise $90,000 in support of free HIV testing, education and prevention programs, case management services, HIV-specific mental health counseling, and housing services. In addition to AIDS Delaware and Delaware HIV Consortium who coordinate the Walk, other HIV service organizations benefit financially, including Ministry of Caring, Beautiful Gate Outreach Center, Latin American Community Center, William J. Holloway Community Program and CAMP Rehoboth.
