OPENING EVENT:

How might visual art invoke both personal and public space? What are the visible and invisible connections that are present? Through both two-dimensional and three-dimensional work, this solo exhibition explores Cheryl Goldsleger’s career-spanning examination of space and location. The selected body of work constructs a comprehensive perspective that prompts viewers to reconsider their individual space, while examining what connects them within public realms. Goldsleger’s work illuminates the complex networks and webs of unseen information that is both emotionally felt and visually seen.

Goldsleger has a key interest in proprioception, which is the body’s inherent awareness of its space through a constant combination of the senses. This fast-paced collection of sensory information allows us to experience the world regardless of our awareness in doing so. The artist examines the nuances of this science-based research, envisioning its possibilities within her practice. Goldsleger considers the constantly shifting perspectives by investigating both two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces. This practice allows for both additive and reductive possibilities that fully realize the ever-shifting perspectives of space.

Goldsleger weaves together collected research on socio-economic events with environmental ones to evoke a personal reaction for herself.. She effectively embodies an all-seeing viewpoint in order to empathize and visualize the interconnected webs of movement, space, and time. The visual result is chaos that frenetically chart the canvas while perpetuating a distinct semblance of geometric order, simultaneously defining the endless action that is constantly occurring within both personal and public realms.
