The Wilmington Grand Prix, one of the premier criterium-style bike races in the U.S., will celebrate its 13th anniversary May 17-19, 2019 offering exciting races, beautiful rides and tons of family fun. For the 12th straight year, the Grand Prix will be part of USA Cycling’s National Race Calendar.

The action starts Friday night (May 17) with the Monkey Hill Time Trial, a 3.2-mile race against the clock through Wilmington’s Brandywine Park. Grab your cowbell and help cheer riders on as they tackle the INfamous cobblestones! Food trucks will be on hand and you can enjoy live music at the top of Monkey Hill.

Saturday (May 18) will feature two amateur races beginning at 11am culminating with the Women’s Pro and Men’s Pro races in the afternoon, plus, family fun activities centered around the heart of the action at 8th & Market Streets. This is a 1-mile Figure-8 course.

Sunday (May 19) will see the return of the Governor’s Ride and Gran Fondo. Join Delaware Governor John Carney and other celebrity riders for a scenic 24-kilometer (15 miles) cycle tour through Brandywine Valley cultural attractions.

“The Wilmington Grand Prix continues to be one of the premier criterium races in the nation,” said USA Cycling’s Micah Rice. “Racers love the technical nature of the course and the enthusiastic crowds that greet them. We’re thrilled to feature the Wilmington Grand Prix on our National Calendar.”

“I look forward to announcing at this event, simply because I know the crowd will be big and enthusiastic,” said veteran race announcer Joe Jefferson.

Since 2012, the Wilmington Grand Prix generated more than $3.97 million in economic impact for the local economy.
