Description
Modeled after the form and movements of Gabriel Faure’s Requiem, Total Praise re-frames and re-contextualizes the movements of traditional Latin Requiem mass with sacred compositions by African-American composers. This concert explores themes of hope, struggle, loss, remembrance, and joy, all of these of our shared human experience that transcends cultural divides.
Our inter-generational choir will present compositional works by Moses Hogan, Zanaida Robles, Rollo Dilworth, B.E. Boykin, and more. The centerpiece of the performance is “Dies Irae” from Josรฉ Mauricio Numes Carcia’s Requiem which was almost lost to history. The concert concludes with Richard Smallwood’s iconic gospel work, “Total Praise”.
Marking 139 years of musical excellence, The Choir School of Delaware’s inter-generational choir, composed of talented students, professional musicians, and choral enthusiasts, joins voices for the AMPLIFY: Art That Resonates concert series to perform music amplifying the works of Black writers, poets, and composers. We hope our music will resonate with you!
