Founded in 1957, Delaware Humane Association (DHA) is Delaware’s premiere nonprofit no kill animal care and adoption center, serving a four state area. We are committed to providing for the needs of homeless and owned dogs and cats in our community. We rely on volunteers and donations to complete our mission and provide quality services to the community, including pet adoptions, affordable spay and neuter surgery, low cost vaccination / microchipping clinics, a pet food pantry, and more.
Each year, hundreds of animals come to DHA in search of a warm bed, good meal, and most importantly, a new home. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work hard to ensure that each animal receives the best care possible during his/her stay at our adoption shelter. We’re committed to preparing all adoptable dogs and cats for a new home by keeping them well-groomed, giving them daily exercise and affection, and providing obedience training and any necessary medical care.
DHA serves the community by offering low cost vaccination clinics, educational workshops, and affordable spay/neuter services. We receive no government funding, and rely on the support of the community in the form of volunteers, private donations, bequests, fundraising events, and our Guardian Angel Program.
We specialize in helping people find the right pet for their family. If you’re looking to add a new family member, please stop by and visit the many cats and dogs available for adoption. Our staff and volunteers will be glad to assist you. Out of state adopters are welcome! Visit our website’s Adoptions section for complete information about our adoption process and fees, and to download a pre-adoption application.
DHA’s facility, The Tatiana and Gerret Copeland Animal Care Center, is conveniently located in the Wilmington Riverfront area with easy access from I-95 and Route 13.
