The premiere issue of Delaware Today magazine hit the newsstands in 1962. Building on the foundation of three previous publications, the New Delawarean, Delaware Cavalcade, and Dateline Delaware, Delaware Today provides regional lifestyle coverage to the entire state. It is one of the oldest city and regional magazines in the country. In contrast to the majority, which began as publications by chambers of commerce, Delaware Today has always been independently owned. In 1981 Angelo Martinelli, who’s Gazette Press had been printing the magazine, purchased Delaware Today and his son Robert became publisher.
Thus, the Martinelli family has been publishing Delaware Today for longer than any other owners, and during their tenure, the company has grown dramatically. Since 1981, the staff of the magazine has expanded from 10 to more than 45 employees. Additionally, sales revenue has increased over 1000% and circulation rates have more than doubled. Delaware Today now publishes three ancillary publications – Ultimate Guide to Delaware (Annual); Delaware Health and Fitness (3 times per year); Delaware Bride (2 time per year).
